What we're growing

When we moved in there was already a macadamia, an orange and a kumquat tree in place (as well as two sapote trees, which I don't consider as food nor edible but others disagree). There is also a jujube (Chinese date?) tree that the birds get to first when fruit appears. My birthday gift a month later was a Meyer lemon tree. The following year we added a pink lemonade tree and planted passion fruit vines. Found some potted citrus on Craigslist, another orange, another Meyer lemon, a grapefruit and a key lime which did not survive transplant. Somewhere in there (after the eucalyptus were finally all gone) we planted a pomegranate tree. The key lime tree was replaced recently with a Mexican lime tree and we added a blood orange. That might be it for the trees, but still on my wishlist: Asian pear.

The removal of the euc grove by the electric company resulted in abundant full sun previously at a premium. We put in few pots for herbs and currently thriving are: Dill, rosemary, mint ,basil, cilantro and a hot pepper of some sort. A curry leaf plant is on order and one pot awaits a tomato.

The tossing of a Halloween pumpkin into the back 40 has resulted in a pumpkin patch that we have encouraged with irrigation. Also haphazardly planted; three artichokes too close together but we will watch them.

Which brings us now to the raised planter boxes, one of three pictured above. Just planted an orange bell pepper. Seeds are on order and will update once sown.
